A 42-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl he is related to, starting when she was 5 in Santa Ana.
During jury selection for his trial, Tomas Alonso pleaded guilty in January to three counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and three counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, all felonies. As part of the plea agreement, four felony counts of lewd acts with a child were dismissed.
The victim came forward in June 2023 when she was 26 years old, prosecutors said in a trial brief. She said she was molested by her relative when she was 5 to 7 years old, prosecutors said.
The victim told police he abused her three or four times a month over the two years, prosecutors said in court papers.
The defendant would regularly pick her up from school and watch her when no one else at her residence could, prosecutors said. The victim’s sibling also accused the defendant of molesting him when he was 9 to 10 and Alonso was 16 to 17, prosecutors said.
Another relative also said she was molested by the defendant when she was 7 to 8 and he was about 16 years old, prosecutors said.
