The Los Angeles Press Club announced Friday that Marc Brown of ABC7 Eyewitness News will receive the Joseph M. Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Brown will be honored at the 63rd Annual SoCal Journalism Awards Gala on Oct. 16.
“Marc has devoted his life and career to informing the community in his native Los Angeles,” Los Angeles Press Club President Lisa Richwine said in a statement. “He exemplifies the type of journalist we look to honor with the Quinn Award.”
Brown is the co-anchor for ABC Eyewitness News from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. He has worked at ABC7 since 1989.
He was born in Los Angeles and graduated from USC with a Bachelors Degree in broadcast journalism and political science.
Brown’s first on-air job was in 1984 at KIEM-TV in Eureka and went on to work as a reporter and anchor in San Jose, San Diego and Reno, Nevada.
He has won six Emmy awards, a Golden Mike award, an Associated Press award and Radio and Television News Directors Association award for excellence in TV news reporting.
Other honorees this year include:
— Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN will win the President’s Award for Impact on Media;
— Bari Weiss will win the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism;
— Josie Huange of KPCC/LAist will win the Guardian Award for Contributions to Press Freedom;
— Sean Penn and Ann Lee of CORE will win the Bill Rosendahl Public Service Award for Contributions to Civic Life.
The Gala will be dedicated to the memory of Ruth Pearl and Buster Sussman. More than 500 journalists and media executives are expected to attend. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are required of all attendees.
Proceeds of the gala fund the Los Angeles Press Club, and all contributions are tax-deductible.
