Al Schultz, the husband of actress Vicki Lawrence and a makeup artist who worked on television shows in the 1960s and 1970s, died at his home in Long Beach on Wednesday, his publicist announced Tuesday. He was 82.
Schultz and Lawrence were married for 49 years and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on Nov. 16.
He worked on “The Carol Burnett Show” for nearly a decade, starting in 1968, and it is where he met Lawrence.
In 1972, when he was 30 years old, Schultz was promoted to Head of West Coast CBS Makeup and was the youngest person to have that position. He worked on “The Sonny and Cher Show,” “All in the Family,” “The Jeffersons,” “Good Times” and “Maude” in that capacity.
Schultz also worked on the “Hollywood Squares,” “Laugh-In,” “The Merv Griffin Show” and “The Dean Martin Show.” He also did make up for Elvis Presley for his final television concert.
He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1942 and played college football at the University of Missouri until a knee injury ended his sports career. He moved to Hollywood and worked as a grip and camera dolly operator before becoming a makeup artist for television shows.
