Eight months after attorneys told a judge that a settlement `in principle’ had been reached in cross litigation between Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger and the group’s creator regarding the 2022 cancellation of a proposed group reunion tour, one of the lawyers told the same judge Thursday that an accord has not been obtained.
Robin Antin, the choreographer who started the Pussycat Dolls, sued Scherzinger in September 2021, alleging the singer wrongfully refused to participate in the group’s planned reunion tour unless she was granted full creative control and a larger share in the group’s business venture. The tour was canceled in early 2022.
During Thursday’s hearing, Antin’s lawyer informed Judge Mark H. Epstein that the case is still unsettled. The judge scheduled a trial-setting conference for Oct. 30 and said it would be vacated if a resolution in the case is obtained before then.
The attorneys had filed joint papers with Epstein last November notifying him of a settlement “in principle” that was “subject to the execution of certain written agreements.”
No proposed terms were divulged. In court papers filed early in the suit brought in September 2021, Antin’s attorneys called Scherzinger’s creativity ultimatums a form of “extortion’ that were “materially different” than those the parties had agreed upon under a February 2019 contract.
Scherzinger, now 47, countersued Antin in August 2022, stating that Antin breached her duties and obligations to Scherzinger, severely damaged (the Pussycat Dolls’) goodwill and wasted the funding for the planned PCD reunion tour, ruining PCD’s ability to do business through self-dealing, waste and fraud.”
The countersuit also alleged that Antin paid another entertainer, Pia Mia, more than $100,000 to be PCD’s lead singer and also bought Mia an expensive gift, but the singer did not last and provided no benefit to the reunion tour project.
Although the Pussycat Dolls had just two albums, they sold more than 55 million records worldwide, making them one of the world’s best-selling female groups of all time.
