The Coachella Valley Repertory announced Sunday three of the four selected plays which will be part of their Origins-New Works Program.
CVRep’s Origins-New Works Program features selected stage readings of brand new works that will premiere at the theater at 68510 E. Palm Canyon Drive #140 in Cathedral City. The 2025/26 season will feature four new theatrical works — one of which is yet to be determined — and at the end of the season, one of the readings will include a world premiere at CVRep for the following year.
“It’s a true `page to stage’ program that is committed to seeing the full development of the next Broadway Show,” theater officials said.
Each project invited to join the process through Origins will be fully funded and produced by CVRep. The three plays were selected from more than 700 submissions, according to theater officials.
The selected plays were “A Christmas Coven,” by Kate McGere, will have a staged reading Tuesday, “Killer,” by Steve Apostolina, which will have a staged reading Jan. 20 and “The Agency,” by Lia Romeo which will have a staged reading on April 14. The fourth play is yet to be selected, but will have a staged reading March 31.
The readings are free, but reservations are required due to the limited space and can be made at cvrep.org/origins/.
CVRep is a nonprofit professional regional theater in Coachella Valley, serving the communities of Cathedral City, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta and Indio.
