Harrison Ford, who personified two of cinema’s most iconic characters in Han Solo and Indiana Jones, will receive the 61st SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award to honor his career and humanitarian work, the actors’ union announced Thursday.
The award honors a performer who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” according to SAG-AFTRA.
“Harrison Ford is a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture,” SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin said in a statement. “His career has been endlessly exciting, always returning to his love of acting. We are honored to celebrate a legend whose impact on our craft is indelible.”
Ford, 83, will receive the honor during the 32nd annual Actor Awards Presented by SAG-AFTRA on March 1 at the Shrine Auditorium.
In addition to his work in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” film franchises, Ford has also starred in memorable films including “American Graffiti,” “Blade Runner,” “Working Girl,” “Presumed Innocent,” “The Fugitive,” “The Mosquito Coast,” “Air Force One” and “Clear and Present Danger.” He has also made a recent mark on television, with his work on the “Yellowstone” prequel series “1923” and a comedy/drama “Shrinking.”
He has also been a humanitarian and environmental advocate, with work including serving as vice chair of Conservation International and speaking at the United Nations Climate Action Summit.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as this year’s recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award,” Ford said in a statement released by the union. “To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me. I’ve spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I’ve always felt grateful to be part of this community.”
