A black bear made an unscheduled appearance on live television Sunday in Monrovia, one day after a woman suffered a scare when a bear — possibly the same one — swiped at her leg as she was walking her dog.
Erin Myers of KTLA5 was delivering a live report from the San Gabriel Valley community Sunday morning, explaining that residents of the home on Oakglade Drive had set up a trap to try to catch the bear, who’d been living underneath the house.
As Myers was speaking, the animal appeared in the driveway in the background of the shot. The bear nosed around for a while before ambling down the street and disappearing into another yard.
On Saturday, a woman suffered a minor injury at about 9:20 a.m. as she was walking her dog near the Monrovia foothills. Police said the animal’s claw made contact with the back of the woman’s knee.
Personnel with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was reportedly at the scene on Sunday to try to capture the bear.
In January, a large black bear was evicted from underneath a home in nearby Altadena after living there for about six weeks.
