It was another super weekend for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which grossed $69 million to lead all films in North America, one week after setting the mark for the best opening weekend of 2026, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

Universal Pictures’ sequel to 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The animated film is based on the popular video games series and features an all-star cast of voice actors including Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, Donald Glover and Brie Larson.

“Project Hail Mary” took second place with $24.5 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth weekend in theaters, Comscore reported.

“The Drama,” starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, made $8.7 million in its second weekend for third place.

The romantic comedy “You, Me & Tuscany” opened with $8 million for fourth place, followed by Pixar’s “Hoppers,” which took in $4.1 million in its sixth week.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Faces of Death” ($1.7 million), “Exit 8” ($1.4 million), “A Great Awakening” ($1.2 million), “Reminders of Him” ($1 million) and “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” ($867,000).

This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $124.6 million. The year-to-date total is $2.26 billion — up 23% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
