The six award contenders are Culver City-native Molly Antopol (“The UnAmericans”) for Fiction; UC Riverside professor Fred Moten (“The Feel Trio”) and Pomona College professor Claudia Rankine (“Citizen: An American Lyric”) for Poetry; Los Angeles-native John Lahr (“Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh”) for Nonfiction; and John Corey Whaley (“Noggin”) and Andrew Smith (“100 Sideways Miles”) — who currently live in Southern California — for Young People’s Literature

The finalists will be revealed Oct. 15 and winners announced in a ceremony Nov. 19.
