A fire that started in or near a homeless encampment in Northridge Tuesday evening and spread to a nearby lumber yard was extinguished in just 14 minutes.
Firefighters were called to 18300 Parthenia St., near Reseda Boulevard, at 10:28 p.m. and encountered wood pallets and a small modular storage building on fire, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A total of 28 firefighters put out the fire and a knockdown was called at 10:42 p.m., Humphrey said.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
