A judge has issued an order blocking the release of information from the county medical examiner’s investigation into the deaths of director-actor Rob Reiner and his photographer wife, Michele.
The medical examiner confirmed in a statement that it had received a court order last week placing a security hold on the case.
“The department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible,” according to the medical examiner statement, first published by NBC4. “Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”
The Los Angeles Police Department, which sought the court order, told the station the move was made solely to ensure detectives on the case learn information from the medical examiner investigation before the media and the public.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead at about 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the couple’s Brentwood home in the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue. The L.A. County Office of Medical Examiner classified the couple’s deaths as homicides, with both dying from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with their killings.
Death certificates obtained earlier by TMZ showed that the couple’s bodies had been released to the family and they were cremated at Mount Sinai Mortuary.
