A woman killed by a hit-and-run vehicle after being ejected from an SUV involved in a crash in Altadena was identified Wednesday.
The crash occurred at about 1:20 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2025, on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway west of Lowell Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman, who was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as 43-year-old Erika De La Riva of Lake View Terrace, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Detectives later determined that a Nissan Pathfinder was heading east on the freeway before being struck by another vehicle, which caused the driver of the Pathfinder to lose control. The SUV overturned and crashed into a guardrail bordering the right shoulder.
The impact of the crash resulted in a front-seat passenger being ejected from the Pathfinder. She was later struck by another vehicle before the arrival of officers, according to the CHP.
Investigators were looking into the possibility that the woman was wearing a seat belt but may have been ejected nonetheless because she was fully reclined.
The driver continued without stopping to render aid.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash was urged to call CHP Altadena Area Officer Gamlet Petrosyan at 626-296-8100. Calls during non-business hours should be made to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
