A 55-hour extended weekend lane reduction for paving work continues Saturday on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Whittier.

There are no full freeway closures associated with the work, which will require lane reductions between Washington Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, according to Caltrans.

The closures will extend through Monday morning.

The southbound 605 will be reduced to just two southbound lanes from 4 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday. Only one lane will be open from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

All southbound 605 lanes will reopen to the public by 5 a.m. Monday.

The following are ramp closures:

– the westbound Washington Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound 605 will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday;

– the eastbound Washington Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound 605 will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday;

– the eastbound Slauson Avenue on-ramp to the southbound 605 will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday;

– the southbound 605 off-ramp to eastbound Washington Boulevard/Sargosa Street will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday;

– the southbound 605 off-ramp to westbound Washington Boulevard will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday and;

– the southbound 605 off-ramp to westbound Slauson Avenue will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday.

More 55-hour extended weekend lane reductions are scheduled through the rest of 2026.

The work includes demolition of old freeway lane concrete, which may cause residents and businesses in the area to experience noise, vibrations and dust.

“Demolition of old freeway lane concrete occurs on Friday nights,” authorities said in a statement.

The work is part of the $260 million Super 605 Freeway Enhancements Project to rehabilitate the freeway from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley.
