Caltrans officials warned drivers of significant delays through Sepulveda Pass beginning Friday, when the San Diego (405) Freeway will experience extended weekend lane reductions in each direction for construction.
The latest lane reductions are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through 5 a.m. Monday as part of ongoing pavement rehabilitation work, according to Caltrans.
The northbound 405 will be reduced to three lanes between just south of the Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp and just north of Bel Air Crest Road. The Getty Center Drive on- and off-ramps will be closed.
Southbound traffic will also be reduced to three lanes between the Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive on-ramp to just north of the Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp.
The agency recommended using Sepulveda Boulevard in either direction during the lane reductions and ramp closures.
Another 25 extended weekend closures are expected to take place, with alternate routes for motorists traveling along Sepulveda Boulevard. Drivers heading north are advised to continue on Sepulveda and use Skirball Center Drive to access the freeway, while southbound motorists should use Church Lane to reach the Sunset Boulevard on-ramp.
The construction is part of the ongoing $143.7 million I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood, aimed at improving safety, mobility and extending the lifespan of the roadway through Sepulveda Pass, according to Caltrans.
Schedules are subject to change due to weather or operational conditions. Residents and businesses near the construction zone may experience noise, vibration and dust associated with the work, Caltrans stated.
Drivers were urged to slow down and remain alert while traveling through work zones.
