Free harbor tours at the Port of Long Beach will return in May, with registration for the first round of summer excursions opening next week.
The Port of Long Beach will offer tours from May through September, with reservations required for the outings, port officials said.
“Join one of the 90-minute narrated excursions and learn more about how the Port of Long Beach impacts you and the economy, get close to some of the biggest ships in the world, learn how the Port is building the Port of the Future to handle 20 million container units annually by 2050, and take pictures of amazing machinery and local marine life,” port officials said in a statement.
Registration for May tours will open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through an online lottery system. Participants can reserve up to four seats, with selections made by random drawing and notifications sent within seven business days, officials said.
Reservations will continue to be handled through an online lottery system, with registration open on the second Monday of each month for tours scheduled the following month.
Tours are generally scheduled four times a month, including two Saturday morning trips and two Wednesday evening excursions, officials said. Reservations are required.
The Port of Long Beach handles about $300 billion in cargo annually and is part of the nation’s largest seaport complex.
