A man believed to be in his 40s apparently took his own life by jumping in front of an Amtrak train in San Clemente Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The man was struck about 1:25 p.m. at the pier, in the 600 block of Avenida Victoria, Downing said.
Witnesses said the man appeared to intentionally throw himself in front of the train, according to the lieutenant.
Downing did not know the train’s direction of travel.
