A documented gang member suspected in the stabbing death of a 22-year-old man during a fight at a Laguna Niguel bar on Labor Day was arrested Friday by a sheriff’s SWAT team.

Craig Tanber, 37, of Dana Point was taken into custody without incident about 6:15 a.m. at a Motel 6 at 13100 Goldenwest St. in Westminster, said Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.

The stabbing at Patsy’s Irish Pub at 28971 Golden Lantern St. was reported at 12:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have not said what precipitated the attack.

The victim — 22-year-old Shayan Mazroei of Laguna Niguel — was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

Tanber, “a documented gang member with a significant criminal history,” was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, Hallock said. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney Larry Yellin said he would meet with investigators on Monday and may file charges against Tanber on Tuesday.
