Maddie Musselman and Tara Prentice both scored four goals as the U.S. women’s water polo team defeated Australia, 14-8, in an exhibition game at Long Beach City College Tuesday evening.
Ryann Neushul and Jewel Roemer both added two goals as the Americans defeated the Australians for the second time in three days and extended their winning streak to 10 games dating back to last year.
Musselman scored the first three goals, the first and third on power plays. Prentice scored with two minutes, 34 seconds left in the first quarter.
Australians Elle Armit and Dani Jackovich scored the final two goals of the quarter.
Both teams scored twice in the second quarter.
Musselman and Prentice scored the first two goals of the third quarter, increasing the U.S. lead to 8-4
Prentice and Roemer scored twice in the fourth quarter and Neushul once.
Goalkeeper Amanda Longan made 13 saves as the Americans improved their record in 2024 to 9-0, Australian goalkeeper Genevieve Longman made six saves.
The U.S. scored on six of its 12 power play opportunities, Australia two of six. The U.S. made both its penalty throws. Australia did not take a penalty throw.
The three-game series will conclude Saturday at noon at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. The U.S. opened the series with a 10-4 victory Sunday at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta.
