A pedestrian was killed Sunday on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Santa Fe Springs.

The crash occurred at 7:12 p.m. Sunday on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway just south of Valley View Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness told the CHP a vehicle ran over a male pedestrian who was down in lanes and did not stop.

The CHP stopped traffic at Carmenita Road and requested that Caltrans shut down the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 for the investigation.

There was no word on why the person was originally down in lanes nor whether he was an adult or juvenile.

  1. We were there before the police arrived. My condolences to this man and his family. He couldn’t have been a pedestrian because his vehicle was slowly rolling down the HOV lane about 50 yards down from where his body lay. Several vehicles had stopped to prevent anyone from hitting him because he lay in between the HOV and fast lane.
