The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell seven-tenths of a cent Sunday to $5.991, its fourth consecutive decrease after rising to its highest amount since Oct. 6, 2023.

The average price is 4.5 cents less than one week ago, but 58.4 cents more than one month ago and $1.117 more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 50.3 cents less than the record $6.494 set on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price fell six-tenths of a cent to $5.901. It is 7 cents less than one week ago, but 53.5 cents more than one month ago and $1.085 more than one year ago. The Orange County average price is 55.8 cents less than the record $6.459 set on Oct. 5, 2022.

Prices were rising slightly in line with seasonal norms before the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28 sent oil prices higher and drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump. Prices began to fall slightly after news of a cease fire last week, though subsequent peace talks in Pakistan failed to produce a deal.

The national average price fell 1 cent to $4.125. It is 1.5 cents more than one week ago, 52.7 cents more than one month ago and 92.9 cents more than one year ago. The national average price is 89.1 cents less than the record $5.016 set on June 14, 2022.
