Andrew Garfield will be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards for his leading performance in “Tick, Tick… BOOM!,” festival organizers announced Thursday.
The award will be presented in person on Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will kick off the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which will run through Jan. 17.
Garfield received the Ensemble Performance Award for “The Social Network” in 2011 and the Spotlight Award for “Hacksaw Ridge” in 2017 from the festival.
“Tick, Tick… BOOM!,” directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is the film adaption of the autobiography of Jonathan Larson, creator of the hit musical “Rent.” The story follows Larson’s life as he questions whether he made the right career choice.
“From his numerous film roles and theatrical performances, Andrew Garfield is an outstanding actor, who puts his heart and soul into bringing the character he’s portraying to life. In the emotionally stirring and fascinating musical `Tick, Tick… BOOM,’ Andrew gives a stunning and heartfelt performance as theater composer Jonathan Larson,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner.
“For this career best performance, we are honored to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor to Andrew Garfield.”
