Director Guillermo del Toro and cast members will be in attendance to receive the Visionary Award for the film “Frankenstein” during next month’s Palm Springs International Film Awards, it was announced Thursday.

” Guillermo del Toro delivers a bold re-imagining of a timeless classic, infusing the story with a profound emotional resonance that urges us to consider what it truly means to be human,” Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said in a statement. ” … We are proud to present the Visionary Award to `Frankenstein’ in recognition of both the director and his remarkable cast resulting in one of the year’s most daring and unforgettable achievements.”

Del Toro and actors Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth will be in attendance to receive the award.

The film, based on Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name, tells the story of Victor Frankenstein (Isaac) embarking on a journey to bring new life into the world, resulting in the creation of the Creature (Elordi) and questioning what it means to be human.

Past recipients of the Visionary Award include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two,” Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma,” Michel Hazanavicus’ “The Artist,” Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood,” Tom McCarthy’s “Spotlight,” Martin Scorcese’s “The Irishman,” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

All of the films received Best Picture nominations at the Academy Awards, with “The Artist” and “Spotlight” winning the Best Picture award.

The film awards will be held Jan. 3, 2026, at the Convention Center at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, with the accompanying festival running from Jan. 2-12.
