A 20-year-old man riding a skateboard in Desert Hot Springs was struck and killed by a vehicle, as authorities continued their investigation Monday.
Juan Mejia Calvillo Jr. of Desert Hot Springs was fatally struck shortly before 6:20 p.m. Friday on Mountain View Road near Brunner Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said a white Chevorlet Camaro traveling southbound on Mountain View Road, north of Brunner Lane, at an unconfirmed speed unsafely passed a slower-moving vehicle against solid double yellow lines when it hit the skateboarder, who was riding in a seated position and heading downhill in the roadway.
The Chevrolet sustained front-end damage, and Calvillo was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to the agency.
