A head-on collision Thursday involving a pickup truck and sedan just east of Nuevo injured six people and prompted partial closure of a major travel corridor in the San Jacinto Valley.
The crash happened at 1:30 p.m. Thursday on the Ramona Expressway, about a half-mile west of Lakeview Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said the pickup and Kia Optima impacted, and the vehicles came to rest on the eastbound side of the four-lane expressway. No other details were immediately available.
Initially, all traffic was stopped on the corridor, but a westbound lane soon opened, according to reports from the scene.
As of 2 p.m., eastbound lanes were completely shut down.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location within 15 minutes and discovered several victims lying in the roadway, while others were still upright, officials said.
A total of six patients were identified, but only four reportedly were transported to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment of moderate to major injuries. The other parties apparently declined further medical attention.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:14 p.m. due to the eastbound closure and ensuing traffic jam on the expressway. The lanes were expected to be reopened by 5 p.m. Thursday.
CHP officers were investigating the cause of the collision.
