Men’s No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia was also in action Saturday, defeating Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The 38-year-old Djokovic has won a record 24 major titles. He’s also won five singles titles at Indian Wells, most recently in 2016.
No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner of Italy breezed past Dalibor Svrcina of Czechia, 6-1, 6-1, on Friday, and will play Denis Shapovalov of Canada on Sunday.
On the women’s side, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek of Poland beat American Kayla Day on Saturday, 6-0, 7-6, while third-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan defeated American Hailey Baptiste, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.
Top seed and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Himeno Sakatsume of Japan, 6-4, 6-2, on Friday and will play Jacqueline Christian of Romania on Sunday.
The tournament concludes on March 15 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
