Two motorists were injured Tuesday in a collision at a Jurupa Valley intersection that triggered a small fire that was quickly suppressed.

The crash occurred at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday at Etiwanda Avenue and Jurupa Road, roughly a mile east of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said several engine crews were sent to the location and found the two vehicles crunched in the middle of the intersection.

The fire that broke out in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles post-impact was reportedly extinguished by sheriff’s deputies or good Samaritans.

Firefighters did not have to extricate either victim. One motorist suffered moderate injuries, and the other had minor injuries, according to officials at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear whether any of the injuries included burns.

The victims, whose identities were not disclosed, were taken to Riverside Community Hospital in stable condition.

Deputies were investigating the cause of the collision.
