An investigation was continuing Monday into a crash on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Blythe that killed a 43-year-old woman.
Natalia Silva of Chino Hills was fatally injured shortly after 5 a.m. Friday east of Mesa Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a red 2026 Kia sedan was traveling at an unconfirmed speed on eastbound I-10 when, for reasons unknown, the driver veered off the roadway, struck a guard rail and became disabled within the No. 1 lane.
A 2019 Volkswagen traveling in the No. 1 lane at an unconfirmed speed could not avoid the Kia in time and hit the sedan, the CHP said.
Silva, a passenger inside the sedan, was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger inside the Volkswagen sustained minor injuries and was taken to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio.
