The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped 1.6 cents Saturday to $5.841.

The average price has decreased three straight days following a run of 68 increases in 70 days totaling $1.742. It is 1.7 cents less than one week ago, but 58.4 cents more than one month ago and $1.068 more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price is 53.2 cents less than the record $6.373 set on Oct. 5, 2022.

Prices were rising slightly in line with seasonal norms before the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28 sent oil prices higher and drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump. Prices began to fall slightly after news of a cease fire this week, and peace talks are currently underway in Pakistan.

The national average price fell 1.8 cents to $4.135. The national average price is 3.1 cents more than one week ago, 55.7 cents more than one month ago and 92.5 cents more than one year ago. It is 88.1 cents less than the record $5.016 set on June 14, 2022.
