The Lake Elsinore community was grateful Friday after a local hero used a spatula to fend off a stick-wielding customer at a local In-N-Out Burger.
Luca Opperman, 20, launched into action on Thursday when he jumped through the window at the In-N-Out to respond to a woman who was threatening workers with a sharpened wooden stick, according to Instagram user @sweet.as.a.p, who said she witnessed the incident.
The woman was reportedly unhappy with the wait time for her food, according to the witness, and was later taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies.
Opperman reportedly jumped through the drive-through window and confronted the woman with a spatula while yelling, ”Get out of here!” according to the witness.
No injuries were reported from the incident, according to KTLA.
Opperman told KTLA in an interview that he is a former gymnast and freestyle trampoline athlete, and he believed the woman could have seriously injured someone with the stick.
Most of the restaurant workers had made their way to a back room during the incident, KTLA reported.
The incident was over after Opperman grabbed the stick from the woman, he said in the interview.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident and the alleged arrest of the woman.
