An indoor ice rink dedicated to year-round hockey meets, figure skating and other events on ice will open next month in Lake Elsinore.

The new Ice Cave on Corydon Road, just west of Mission Trail, is being touted as the inland region’s first private indoor rink dedicated to year-round ice sports.

“We’ve built a reputation for delivering world-class experiences on land, in the air and on the water,” Lake Elsinore Mayor Bob Magee said. “Now we are bringing that same energy and opportunity to the ice. This project reflects our commitment to innovation, recreation and creating destinations that serve our residents and attract visitors from across the region.”

The Ice Cave is slated to open sometime in April, though an official grand opening date has yet to be announced.

“Lake Elsinore continues to redefine what it means to be a true hub for action sports,” city Economic Development Director Gina Gonzalez said. “Ice Cave … reinforces our strategy to position Lake Elsinore as a destination for sports innovation and community connection.”

Other rinks in the region, such as Riverside’s Icetown and Palm Desert’s Iceplex adjacent to Acrisure Arena, provide skating opportunities, but Ice Cave’s promoters said via the venue’s web portal that it’s intended to be a different experience, boasting “ice-related activities that captivate and engage visitors, from recreational skating to competitive events.”

The new facility will feature both a rink built to National Hockey League standards and another “studio” rink reserved for recreation, according to the developers.

Last month, the city announced implementation of its Action Sports Industry Growth & Attraction Plan, intended to broaden Lake Elsinore’s appeal as an action sports hub through developments and stepped up tourism marketing campaigns to 2040.

The city said the leading objectives are expanding or creating venues for motor sports, competitive skating and cycling; enlarging hiking and mountain biking trails; hosting a greater number of festivals; facilitating startups geared to action sports; and “creating pathways for local students going into sports media, engineering, coaching and product design careers tied to the action sports economy.”
