A 3-year-old gelding has died after suffering a racing injury at Los Alamitos Race Course, state horse racing officials reported Monday.

Cheap Bar was injured in Saturday’s ninth race at the Cypress track. The official race chart said he “lost footing start, drifted out, fell after wire, equine ambulance.”

Cheap Bar had 10 career races and two first-place finishes in his career, all at Los Alamitos, according to the industry website Equibase.

Los Alamitos has now had five horses suffer racing or training deaths in 2026 after experiencing 19 such deaths in 2025, according to California Horse Racing Board data.

Cheap Bar was the second racehorse to die at a Southland track last weekend. The 3-year-old filly Cosmic Heat fell as she jumped onto a downhill track’s dirt crossing during Saturday’s first race at Santa Anita and was later euthanized.

She was the eighth horse to suffer a racing or training death at the Arcadia track this year.
