The route of some motorists on the northbound Golden State (5) and westbound Ventura (134) freeways in the Griffith Park area will take some extra turns Tuesday evening while sewer lines get emergency attention.

LA Sanitation & Environment will shut down both lanes of the interchange from the northbound 5 to the westbound 134 from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday. The closure will allow workers to rehabilitate portions of North Outfall Sewer Units along the Zoo Drive right-of-way from the southeast corner to the northwest corner of the Griffith Park Ferraro Fields, Doran Street from West San Fernando Road to the end of the cul de sac near the LA River and westbound portions of the freeways, according to agency officials.

Off-ramps will remain open and alternate route signage will be posted, officials said.

The project includes cleaning or replacing sewer pipes and existing siphons and excavating and building sewer access pits, officials said. Workers will try to reduce odors.

The emergency repairs are part of an overall sewer improvement project that started last summer and will continue into summer 2027.
