Caltrans warned drivers Wednesday of significant delays through the Sepulveda Pass next month when the San Diego (405) Freeway is again reduced to three lanes in each direction for extended weekend construction.
The latest lane reductions are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, March 6, and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, March 9, as part of ongoing pavement rehabilitation work, Caltrans said.
The northbound 405 will be reduced to three lanes between just south of the Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp and just north of Bel Air Crest Road. The Getty Center Drive on- and off-ramps will be closed during the work.
Southbound lanes will also be reduced to three between the Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive on-ramp and the Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp.
Caltrans recommended alternate routes for motorists traveling along Sepulveda Boulevard. Drivers heading north are advised to continue on Sepulveda Boulevard and use Skirball Center Drive to access the freeway, while southbound motorists should use Church Lane to reach the Sunset Boulevard on-ramp.
Approximately 25 extended weekend lane reductions are planned as part of the project, with schedules subject to change due to weather or operational conditions. Residents and businesses near the construction zone may experience noise, vibration and dust associated with the work, Caltrans said.
The construction is part of the $143.7 million I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood, aimed at improving safety, mobility and extending the lifespan of the roadway through the Sepulveda Pass, Caltrans said.
Drivers were urged to slow down and remain alert while traveling through work zones.
