A severed power pole along the Harbor (110) Freeway in San Pedro brought down wires and prompted a full closure of the southbound lanes Wednesday.
The California Highway Patrol received a report around 9:10 a.m. of low-hanging wires on the southbound side of the freeway near Gaffey Street, an officer said.
At some point, the pole fell, and firefighters responded to divert traffic at First Street and Gaffey, the agency said.
The CHP shut down southbound lanes at Pacific Avenue and Channel Street, issuing a SigAlert at 9:40 a.m.
Unconfirmed reports indicated a school bus with no students aboard was in the area.
