A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his 62-year-old stepfather to death in Castaic, authorities said Sunday.

An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at 1:35 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 32700 block of Ridge Top Lane, off Sierra Oak Trail and near The Old Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Arriving deputies found a man lying on the floor of the living room suffering from multiple stab wounds, sheriff’s officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as 62-year-old Bruce Whitney of Castaic, the LASD said.

Homicide detectives identified Whitney’s stepson as a suspect in the homicide, sheriff’s officials said. The stepson, 19-year-old Terrance Crawford, was located in the Los Angeles area and arrested and booked for suspicion of murder at the sheriff’s Santa Clarita station.

Sheriff’s online inmate records said Crawford was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Saturday and remained in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.

Anyone with further information about the case was asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
