Police detained multiple suspects following a pursuit of an armed driver that began in Van Nuys, reached Inglewood and ended in downtown Los Angeles.
Officers began the chase at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near Tobias Avenue and Saticoy Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police confirmed to City News Service that the driver was wanted for having a firearm.
The California Highway Patrol was aware of the pursuit but told CNS that the LAPD had not requested its assistance.
CBS2, citing the LAPD, reported that the white SUV being pursued by law enforcement had been reported stolen.
ABC7 reported that at some point during the chase, two passengers had jumped out of the SUV.
The driver, at several times during the pursuit, drove on the opposite side of traffic and came close to colliding with vehicles on surface streets and the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway toward the Santa Monica (10) Freeway.
The driver eventually drove into a parking structure in downtown Los Angeles.
“A pursuit entered the downtown area and terminated near Eighth Street and Hill Street. Multiple suspects have been detained at this point with one outstanding,” the LAPD Central Division said in a statement, adding that a perimeter was established as officers continued searching the area for the outstanding suspect.
It remains unclear whether the outstanding suspect was the driver, and police have not specified how many individuals were detained.
