A memorial with flowers and origami cranes was visible Monday near the place where a longtime chef at Nobu Malibu was killed when a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old boy struck his parked vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. Saturday in the 22600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lost Hills/Malibu station.

Ryo Uchimiya, 51, died from multiple blunt force injuries in an accident on the street, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office said.

According to reports, Uchimiya worked as a sushi chef for more than two decades at Nobu Malibu, an acclaimed Japanese restaurant near the crash site.

Surveillance video showed a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Range Rover, plow into the vehicle Uchimiya was in, forcing it into another parked vehicle.

Reports indicate the driver was a 16-year-old boy who was going at least 50 miles per hour when he swerved across the “fog line” on PCH — the white line separating the roadway from the shoulder — and struck a parked vehicle.

Road conditions at the time were not immediately known, and it was unclear what caused the motorist to swerve.

NBC4 reported the teen survived the crash and that authorities said he did not appear to be driving under the influence.
