Saturday’s heavy rainfall caused a mudslide in Cathedral City that immobilized about 30 vehicles and stranded their occupants.
The mudslide was reported about 3:15 p.m. Saturday on Varner Road between Date Palm and Mountain View roads, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
Cathedral City police officers and firefighters evacuated 32 people to a staging area and public works crews used two tractors to clear mud and debris from the road so the stranded vehicles could be removed, police said.
Varner Road will remain closed until further notice due to the risk of more mudslides, police said.
