Forecasters predicted continued rain in Riverside County through the weekend and into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
“A series of weak but colder weather systems will bring more chances for light to moderate showers over the region for this weekend through the middle of next week,” the NWS announced.
Friday was expected to be mostly clear in the downtown Riverside, Temecula, Hemet and Palm Springs areas, but showers are likely Saturday afternoon.
The Coachella Valley was expected to have mostly clear skies until Sunday. Chances of showers were expected after 10 p.m. Sunday night, according to the NWS.
“The major shortwave trough upstream will continue to move in across the region throughout the weekend, with a steady band of rain pushing through by later in the evening on Saturday and into Sunday morning,” the NWS said.
“This trough will allow for a secondary wave to deepen in its wake going into the early part of next week with yet another trough moving in,” the weather service added.
Daytime temperatures in the Riverside metropolitan and Temecula areas were expected to be in the mid-60s all weekend, while Hemet was expected to be just a few degrees cooler in the low 60s.
The Coachella Valley was expected to reach temperatures in the low 70s throughout the weekend, according to the NWS. Temperatures in Palm Springs were expected to linger in the upper 60s all weekend.
Riverside County saw a couple precipitation records on New Year’s Day, with Palm Springs setting a record for Jan. 1 with .96 of an inch, breaking the old mark of .75 of an inch from 1934, and Indio setting a record with .66 of an inch, breaking the old record of .27 of an inch set in 1910.
