Santa Anita Park has canceled live racing Saturday due to the ongoing rain in the Southland.

“[The] latest in a series of powerful storms is expected to drop yet more significant rain on the Southern California area throughout the afternoon,” park officials said.

A decision on Sunday’s scheduled races will be made early in the morning after the latest forecast has been evaluated.

Santa Anita also canceled live racing on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, again due to heavy rainfall.

A make-up day for Saturday’s races has been set for Thursday, Jan. 15. This is in addition to the previously announced addition of live racing on Thursday, Jan. 8.

In December, Santa Anita delayed the opening day of its Classic Meet for 48 hours as a powerful atmospheric river storm drenched the region.

The delay pushed opening day to Sunday, Dec. 28 when 41,962 people showed up, officials said.

It was the largest opening day crowd in nine years and the most for a Sunday opener since 1999.
