A potent storm poured rain on the Southland overnight for the first time in more than a month, but the National Weather Service said Wednesday that the fast moving storm front has exited Los Angeles County.

The stormy weather prompted a Los Angeles County flood advisory until 5 a.m., a flash flood warning for the Eaton fire burn scar until 3:15 a.m. and caused some road closures.

“The speed of the passage was due to a strong 150kt jet that was aligned perpendicular to the front and really gave it an extra oomph,” said the NWS. ”There are plenty of showers following in the wake of the front as a weaker vort lobe moves into the area. These showers will continue through the morning and then taper off.”

Forecasters said the rainfall tracked well with their predictions with most areas seeing .5 to 1.0 inches of rain and 1 to 2 inches across the coastal areas, foothills and mountain slopes.

“Dry conditions and a warming trend will kick off Thursday and peak on Friday with a weak Santa Ana wind event,” said the NWS.

Clouds and cooling Saturday will lead to a chance of rain on Sunday. Periods of rain and low elevation snow are likely all next week.
