The county was sued Tuesday by the parents of a 16-year-old autistic boy who drowned during a field trip in East Los Angeles last year.

Cesar Ortiz and Claudia Herrera filed the wrongful death/negligence suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking unspecified damages for the loss of their son, Erick Ortiz.

A representative for the county did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the suit, which is similar to one the teen’s parents filed against the Los Angeles Unified School District on Aug. 13.

The boy, a special needs student at Garfield High School, was on a field trip at Los Angeles County-operated Atlantic Avenue Park for a school- sponsored event when he was pulled from the water of an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the suit states. He could not be resuscitated and was declared dead at a hospital.

The suit alleges the teen was not properly supervised.
