[symple_googlemap title=”Pedestrian fatal” location=”Sixth Street and Towne Avenue, Los Angeles, CA” height=”300″ zoom=”15″]A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday in downtown Los Angeles, and police arrested the alleged hit-and-run driver a short time later.

The collision occurred about 5:45 a.m. at Seventh Street and Towne Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. The victim, a man whose name was withheld pending notification of his relatives, died at the scene.

Jesus Reynosa, 24, of Monterey Park was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was being held on $50,000 bail, according to the LAPD and the sheriff’s department.

The victim was walking north across Seventh Street against a “don’t walk” signal when he was hit by a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta — driven by Reynosa — that was westbound on a green light, police said.

“After the collision, Reynosa made a U-turn and returned to the scene. He stopped approximately 20 feet from the body and then elected to flee,” according to an LAPD statement.

“A witness flagged down officers … and provided them with a vehicle license plate number and vehicle description. A crime broadcast was initiated by the officers, and within seconds the vehicle was located by other Central Area officers.”

Reynosa has a valid driver’s license and is insured, according to police, who said drugs or alcohol were ruled out as factors in the collision.
