A homeless woman was in custody Wednesday after allegedly trying to kidnap a 4-year-old boy from his mother in a scary Santa Clarita sidewalk confrontation, authorities said.

The alleged kidnapping attempt was in the 23000 block of Via Canon in the Newhall area of Santa Clarita where 44-year-old Alicia Sanchez began yelling at the mother as she approached the mother and son, according to Sgt. Cortland Myers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station.

Sanchez screamed “that’s not your son” and then tried to grab the 4-year-old boy, but the mother was able to fight off the attacker, Cortland said.

Sanchez gave up trying to grab the boy and walked to a wash nearby where she was taken into custody in the Tuesday incident, according to Cortland.

The boy and his mother were not physically injured, Cortland said. There was no word about Sanchez’ background or mental condition.
