While sitting behind bars this weekend, former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight will be rooting heavily for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his long-awaited bout against Manny Pacquiao — because the outcome of the fight might help him get out of jail.
Knight’s attorney, Matthew Fletcher, said today Mayweather is a friend of his client, and the boxer could pony up some of his winnings if he prevails in the fight to help cover Knight’s $10 million bail.
“I think we’re going to have very good luck,” Fletcher said. ” … Hopefully next week … after Floyd Mayweather wins again, I think he’s going to come riding to the rescue. There’s a lot of really good things that him and Suge are very close friends — have known each other for a while. Obviously he’s been busy, they’ve both been busy, but I think we will be able to make bail.”
Knight is jailed on charges of murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run for allegedly running down two men in a Compton parking lot, killing one of them.
Fletcher has made repeated efforts to get his client out of jail, but a judge on Thursday denied his latest request to have Knight’s bail lowered again.
Mayweather and Pacquiao will fight Saturday night in Las Vegas.
