Laughter-filled banter on late-night TV isn’t funny to the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect.

The New York nonprofit took offense at a throwaway line by Hollywood conservative Tim Allen, who told “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday night that “You’ve gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes. This is like ’30s Germany.”
In a Facebook statement, Anne Frank Center director Steven Goldstein said: “Tim, have you lost your mind? No one in Hollywood today is subjecting you or anyone else to what the Nazis imposed on Jews in the 1930s — the world’s most evil program of dehumanization, imprisonment and mass brutality, implemented by an entire national government, as the prelude for the genocide of nearly an entire people.
“Sorry, Tim, that’s just not the same as getting turned down for a movie role.”
Close to 300 comments were posted by noon Tuesday, with many taking Allen’s side.
A typical mix of reactions:
Ohhhh, but it’s ok to compare Trump and all of his supporters to Hitler? Don’t drown in your own hypocrisy ???? https://t.co/CanT8sMJah

I’m thinking Tim Allen doesn’t understand what 30’s Germany actually looked like. pic.twitter.com/09Y4f8yKrN
