The U.S. section of the International Boundary and Water Commission announced Monday that it is accepting applications for its Citizens Forum, which helps the San Diego community communicate with the commission.
The commission, which oversees waterways that traverse the U.S.-Mexico border, established the forum in 2002 to allow members of the public to continuously share their concerns, needs and values. The commission opened applications for the Citizens Forum to the public as all current members of the board are approaching the end of their terms.
In addition to overseeing cross-boundary water quality in the Tijuana River Basin, the commission manages the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Tijuana River Flood Control Project in the San Diego region. The commission also holds quarterly meetings of its Citizens Forum in San Diego County.
Selected members of the Citizens Forum will serve two-year terms as volunteers, receiving no compensation, according to the commission. Residents and former forum members can apply at ibwc.gov/files/sdapp20.pdf.
Applications must be turned in by Jan. 17, and the first meeting of the new board will be held March 5.
