A 25-year-old felon with warrants out for his arrest in two states was arrested Friday on suspicion of committing several burglaries and vehicle thefts throughout the Coachella Valley in recent weeks, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Tre Michael Sutherland was taken in custody around noon at a home in the 72000 block of Varner Road in Thousand Palms and booked at the Indio jail on suspicion of burglary, being in possession of stolen property and being a felon in possession of a stolen handgun, according to Sgt. Christopher Terne.
During the arrest, authorities seized a stolen handgun and other stolen property, ammunition, burglary tools, drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s department.
Sutherland’s arrest stemmed from an investigation by the Palm Desert Burglary Suppression Unit into a series of burglaries and vehicle thefts reported throughout the area over several weeks, but specifics about the alleged crimes were not released.
Sutherland has had an active warrant out for his arrest in Riverside County for a misdemeanor drug possession case since last October, court records show. Sheriff’s officials said he was also wanted in Washington state for allegedly evading a peace officer.
Sutherland was previously convicted of an unspecified felony, although not in Riverside County, records show.
Jail records were not immediately updated to reflect Sutherland’s custody or bail status.
Anybody with additional information on the investigation was asked to call sheriff’s Deputy Trevor Henson at 760-836-1600. Tipsters can call anonymously at 760-341-7867 and reference incident #O201220016.
