A wildfire that broke out Monday southeast of Corona burned 110 acres amid stiff winds before crews got it partially contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:15 p.m. in the area of Eagle Canyon and Cajalco roads, on the edge of the Corona city limits, less than two miles west of Lake Mathews, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said 22 engine crews and six hand crews from the county, Corona and Riverside Fire Departments, numbering close to 200 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a rapid rate toward Eagle Canyon, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down the corridor.
Four Cal Fire air tankers were summoned to make runs on the brusher, slowing its advance, according to reports from the scene.
At 6:10 p.m., the blaze’s rate of spread was stopped, and the fire was declared 25% contained.
Several properties were in the path of the blaze, but crews prevented it from reaching them. No evacuations were ordered.
Crews were expected to remain on the fire lines through the night.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
