A fast-moving brush fire charred 15 acres and injured a firefighter Monday in Palm Springs.
The blaze was reported about 11 a.m. about two miles south of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway off Tramway Road, according to Palm Springs Fire Department Capt. Nathan Gunkel.
No homes were immediately threatened, and no evacuations had been ordered as of 12:30 p.m.
Gunkel said the wind-driven blaze has the potential to scorch a 1,000 acres of nearby vegetation.
“It has plenty of room,” he said.
One firefighter was reported injured, but neither the nature or severity of the firefighter’s injuries were immediately known, Gunkel said.
Units from the Riverside County Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management also responded. Air support was also requested, although Gunkel said the winds may interfere with those plans.
